Become an LCSAR member

The members of the Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue Association are dedicated, highly trained volunteers who work closely with the sheriff of Lewis and Clark county. We are always looking for new members. But not everyone qualifies: there are a few qualifications each member must meet along the way.

To join LCSAR, you should be in good physical condition and should be able to maintain a professional demeanor while working outdoors in bad weather, at night, with little sleep, and:

  1. Attend a member meeting to get oriented to the unit. Member meetings are held every month at 7 pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Search and Rescue Headquarters, on the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds.
  2. Undergo a background check by the L&C Sheriffs Department.
  3. Be interviewed and recommended for membership by the Board of Directors
  4. Be voted on by the membership to achieve "Associate" status
  5. Complete mandatory training (including Fundamentals of Search and Rescue, first aid, communications, and GPS training, among others)
  6. Participate in a variety of missions as an associate
  7. Be recommended for full membership by the Board
  8. Be elected for Active membership by the current active members.

If you are interested in finding out what it takes to be a LCSAR member, come and sit in on one of our membership meetings (they are always open to the public). At the meeting, you will be introduced to the folks who can start you on your way to joining our unit.
