LCSAR Radio Reprogramming
The communications group will be programming radios Tuesday, Sept. 8th from 5:30-9:00 pm at the SAR building. Each radio will take approx 15 minutes to re-program, you can either drop your radio off and wait, or leave it with us and pick it up at the next general meeting. We will also need to see any extra batteries that you may have in your possession. You will notice that this is the week before the Vigilant Guard exercise, for anyone participating in that, bringing your radio up to date with all the repeaters in our area (making sure you have the best coverage).
Among general upgrades and the addition of several repeaters, you will notice several new changes in your radio that make this change worthwhile and necessary.
1. ALL the channels have moved locations. Every channel we use on a regular basis will now be in the first zone.
2. We will be issuing with your radio a channel guide, sized as a business card and laminated. You can do with it what you like, but it will list all channels available in the first three zones.
3. We have added voice announcements to the channels (meaning, when your radio is strapped to your chest in the dark and you cannot see the faceplace, the radio will actually “announce” what channel you are currently on.
4. Radio ID’s will be changed, basing everything off of existing pager numbers (for example, my radio and my pager will both be 423…)
It is very important that you bring your radio in at some point that evening, even if to just throw it at us and leave. We will make sure you get it back. If you do not bring it in, you run the risk of NOT being able to communicate with the rest of the team.
